Maritime Executive Compensation Trends: APAC & EMEA 2024/25
Direct Search Global's annual compensation survey draws on data from over 340 placements and 180 client organisations across the Asia-Pacific and EMEA maritime and energy sectors. This report provides benchmarks for C-suite, senior management, and specialist roles as of Q3 2024.
Executive Summary
Maritime executive compensation in Singapore and APAC has grown an average of 12–18% year-on-year in 2024, driven by sustained demand for specialist talent in three areas: alternative fuels technical management, digital and data-fluent operations leadership, and cross-border commercial roles spanning APAC and Middle East trading hubs.
In EMEA, compensation growth has been more moderate at 6–10% on average, with standout increases in offshore wind (15–22%) and LNG trading (18–25%) reflecting the acute global shortage of experienced practitioners in these areas.

Sectors with the Highest Salary Growth
Offshore Wind: The accelerating build-out of European offshore wind capacity — with 60+ GW of new capacity permitted or under construction in the North Sea and Baltic alone — has created severe shortages of experienced project delivery professionals. Project Directors with EPCI delivery experience on 500MW+ projects are commanding packages 25–35% above 2022 benchmarks.
Alternative Fuels Technical Management: As noted in our CEO Outlook piece, ammonia and methanol dual-fuel technical expertise carries a significant scarcity premium. Technical Directors and Fleet Managers with verified alternative-fuels experience command 20–30% premiums over equivalent conventional-fuel roles.
LNG Trading: Sustained JKM-TTF spread opportunities and the reconfiguration of European LNG supply chains following the Russia-Ukraine conflict have driven LNG trading desk expansion across Singapore, London, and Geneva. Senior LNG traders with APAC relationships are particularly sought-after.
Factors Influencing Compensation Beyond Base
Across all markets, we observe growing emphasis on long-term retention through deferred bonus structures (3-year vesting is increasingly standard at C-suite), equity-linked instruments in private companies, and enhanced flexibility packages (remote work allowances, relocation support, and international mobility clauses).
Candidates with demonstrable ESG credentials — particularly experience in emissions monitoring, sustainability reporting (GHG Protocol, IMO DCS), or green financing — are increasingly able to command a premium of 10–15% in organisations with active decarbonisation mandates.
